Education Law
We serve (and have served) as general counsel to multiple education clients, including tribally controlled grant schools, charter schools, public schools, and public and private universities. We have unique experience in working with schools located within Native communities. Our overall approach to working with schools, whatever the type, is to proactively manage issues to limit risk.
We have experience in the following areas:
- Compliance with federal, state, and tribal funding requirements;
- Contracting with vendors and others for outside services;
- Drafting legislation, both at the federal and tribal level;
- Handling employee and student disciplinary matters;
- Human resource and personnel issues;
- IDEA and other special education needs;
- Lobbying on funding, new school construction, and other legislative matters;
- Managing legal issues arising with new school construction; and
- Procurement compliance and disputes.
Our lawyers have also represented schools before various administrative bodies, including the EEOC and various tribal employment rights offices, as well as in court.
